SLCAGO A Tribute to Dr. John Longhurst, Mar. 01, 2008

Members of the SLCAGO and community gathered in the LDS Conference Center to celebrate the career of recently retired Tabernacle Organist, Dr. John Longhurst.

Dr. Myron Patterson who performed "Wondrous Love"
and Dr. Ken Udy who performed "The Ash Grove."


Andrea Slack performed "Jehovah, Lord of Heaven and Earth" and spoke about Dr. Longhurst as a teacher when she studied with him at BYU.


Scott Rowley performed "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say"


Heidi Alley performed "God of Our Fathers, Whose Almighty Hand"


Gregory Glenn spoke about Dr. Longhurst and his influence in the community.


With organist Dr. Linda Margetts, and Bonnie Goodliffe, members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performed some of Dr. Longhurst's Hymn arrangements.


The choir and audience joined in singing "We're Not Ashamed to Own Our Lord" composed by John Longhurst.


Thomas Hanson, Project Manager during the construction of the Conference Center, spoke of John's influence and direction on the organ's design.


Dr. Linda Margetts performed "Come, Thou Almighty King"


Dr. Clay Christiansen performed "Cantilena" and later spoke about John as Mentor/Colleague on Temple Square.


Dr. Rick Elliott introduced Neil Harmon's composition "Fantasy on the Name 'Longhurst'."


Ryan North, SLCAGO Sub-Dean, offered his comments about the "monuments" left by Dr. Longhurst.


Larry Blackburn performed "He is Risen"


Julie Farmer-Haltom performed "In Humility"


Dr. Andrew Unsworth performed "Lord, Dismiss Us with Thy Blessings"
