SLCAGO Dean Shelby Fisher will discuss her book Tracy Y. Cannon: Tabernacle Organist and Pioneering Musician during a meet-and-greet at Signature Books in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Cannon’s career includes organst at the Salt Lake Tabernacle and Music and the Spoken Word broadcast. He was also the leader of the McCune School of Music and Art and brought notoriety to its academic excellence.
Cannon’s musical tastes are described as dignified, refined, reverent. The heavy influences of Northern European musical tradition on his works became the norm for Latter-day Saint congregations for generations.
Dr. Fisher will discuss Cannon’s role in guiding the musical voice of Mormonism and answer questions from the audience.
